Beti Williams named in New Years Honours list

06/01/2012 Beti Williams named in New Years Honours listBeti Williams, the recently-retired director of ITWales at Swansea University, has been named in this year's New Years Honours list for her work in promoting the role of women in science, engineering and technology.

She has been awarded an MBE in recognition of her campaign work in encouraging girls to pursue an IT career, as well as setting up a network for software developers and Technocamps to bring computing to schools and colleges.

Other women in IT recognised in the list include Ursula Martin, who has been given a CBE for services to Computing Science.

She too has worked hard to drive forward national initiatives for the advancement of women in computing through the British Computer Society. She currently works as a professor at the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science at Queen Mary, University of London.

"I am delighted that my contribution has been recognised in this way," she said.

Faith Wainwright, a director at Arup, was made MBE for services to the built environment and engineering.
