Cyber security professionals are 'incredibly important'

This is the view of Nicholas Lansman, secretary general of the Internet Services Providers' Association (ISPA UK), who welcomed the launch of the Cyber Security Challenge this week as it "will encourage more people into this profession".

Monday (July 26th) saw the launch of a nationwide competition, a series of online games that will test the cyber security abilities of individuals and teams.

Winners of the challenge, which will run over the next few months, will be awarded places on the Detica Academy, as well as funded or part-funded places for masters-level university security courses.

As well as other places on courses, there will also be an internship awarded at one of the UK's premier security companies.

Mr Lansman urged the government to educate internet users about the dangers that exist online and what they can do to protect themselves.

According to the National Fraud Authority, at least £3.5 billion is lost by individuals to fraud every year.
