Do businesses have a handle on their emails?

22/06/2010 Do businesses have a handle on their emails?Businesses are still not getting a handle on their emails, which could cause them to "miss out big time".

This is the view of Doug Miles, UK managing director at the Association for Information and Image Management (AIIM) Europe, who spoke at the AIIM Roadshow.

He argued that even if companies have an enterprise content management solution (ECM), many people are not confident that it is working, which could mean that those in technical support jobs have a big task ahead if the management of emails gets out of hand.

"How confident are you that emails relating to documenting commitments and obligations made by you or your staff are recorded, complete and retrievable?," he asked.

As businesses become more mobile, more firms are taking up hosted business email solutions.

According to research by Radicati Group, the market is growing, with business and consumer accounts in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) expected to grow from 536 million mailboxes in 2010, to 641 million mailboxes by 2014.
