First IT social network for women to launch

26/02/2009 First IT social network for women to launchAn IT social network for women in Scotland is set to be launched at a special event in Aberdeen next month.

Aberdeen Geek Girl Dinners has been set up to cater for women in IT and new media who want to meet people who share their interests and passions.

Its first event will take place at the Enterprise Business Centre on March 19th and will combine as a launch night and charity event.

As well as being a chance to meet fellow women in technology, funds will be raised for Breast Cancer Care.

Also, special guest speakers on the night will be Ed Gibson, head of cyber security at Microsoft and a former special investigations agent with the FBI, as well as neuro linguistic programming expert Rosie O'Hara of NLP Highland.

The event is being co-ordinated by Sheryl Newman and Morag Duncan (pictured) of IT consultancy the Easthaven Group. While it is the first of its kind in Scotland, the Girl Geek Dinners concept was originally launched in London in 2005.
