Flexibility 'drives IT careers'

30/01/2009 Flexibility 'drives IT careers'Remote and flexible working plays a major part in ensuring IT careers are attractive to a wide variety of people, a leading organisation claims.

The British Computer Society (BCS) has said that flexible working arrangements are particularly important for women in the industry.

Staged on February 3rd at Savoy Place in London, the BCS's W Tech event is aimed at helping women who want to return to IT or further develop their existing career.

Rebecca George, Chair of the BCS women's forum, explained that "flexibility to work remotely has played a big part in women deciding to work in IT".

"These days a lot of organisations make it possible to work from home which gives people a bit more flexibility and autonomy in their job," she added.

According to figures released by the Office of National Statistics, the number of female professionals working in IT has declined by six per cent between 2001 and 2007.
