Flexible working benefits women in IT

11/03/2009 Flexible working benefits women in ITThe benefits of flexible working have been highlighted by ThinkGrid, which believes that women in IT can benefit in particular.

This is because females now have more opportunity to continue their careers while on extended periods away from the office, such as on maternity leave.

IT workers have been given more chance to work outside of the office, either on the go or in the home, due to new technology.

Rob Lovell, chief executive and co-founder of ThinkGrid, said: "It enables people, women at home, or women looking after children, or maternity leave, they're able to continue to work, much more flexibly then they could any other way.

"That empowers people a little bit more to continue their career and continues to attribute to the business even though they are away from it the majority of the time."

The rights of people with children under the age of 18 to request flexible working were recently discussed when the Equal Pay and Flexible Working Bill had its second reading in the House of Lords.
