27/05/2009 Internships for graduates 'have many advantages'Graduates should consider an internship after they leave university this summer, Push.co.uk has suggested.

Johnny Rich, editor of the independent guide to universities and student life, highlighted the many benefits of internship programmes.

He observed that such schemes can help graduates stand out from the crowd and that people undertaking an internship could improve their skills base and make themselves more attractive to future employers.

"One good way to make yourself stand out is a degree but you are still in a fairly large crowd that's all standing out. How do you stand out from that crowd of graduates?" Mr Rich asked.

"You can have something else to offer such as work experience and ideally that work experience will be in something relevant to what you want to do and it would have been paid for."

The government recently published a guide on the several career options open to graduates, which included information and advice on internships and work experience programmes.
