IT graduate jobs 'favour work experience candidates'

13/01/2012 IT graduate jobs 'favour work experience...Graduates looking for their first technology job will be in luck this year as employers are expected to increase hiring, but a new report suggests that those with work experience will be picked first.

High Fliers' Graduate Market in 2012 study predicts that employers will recruit 6.4 per cent more graduates this year than they did in 2011.

However, students might be encouraged to gain work experience before they complete their degree as a record 36 per cent of graduate vacancies are expected to be filled by candidates who have already worked for the company they are applying to.

Encouragingly, the report found that there are more opportunities for graudates looking for a role at engineering, IT and telecommunication firms.

This is echoed by the recent Report on Jobs from the REC and KPMG, which revealed that despite a weak jobs market overall, demand for skilled IT workers remains strong.

High Fliers predicted there will be 31.6 per cent more jobs available in IT and telecommunications.
