IT 'has best career prospects'

21/09/2009 IT 'has best career prospects'Young people believe that jobs in IT, science and engineering have the best prospects, new research has indicated.

The Realtime Generation Survey 2009 has found that 33 per cent of 13 to 17-year-olds think the sectors offers the most likely possibility of a successful working life.

More boys (37 per cent) want to enter the IT and science industry than girls, the Logicalis UK study suggested.

Chris Gabriel, marketing and solutions director at the firm, said that youngsters are weighing up the "value of education versus employment prospects".

"This generation is planning ahead and offsetting these fears by choosing traditional academic subjects such as science, IT and engineering, which they associate with better career prospects," he added.

Financial concerns were revealed to be affecting many young people, with 80 per cent of respondents worried they will not be able to afford higher education.

Also, 48 per cent are nervous about getting into debt to further graduate career development and 52 per cent admitted the recession will affect their choice of university.

Job, money, university, want and afford were named as the buzz words for the generation's future concerns.
