Microsoft reveals top three degrees for career in technology

25/08/2010 Microsoft reveals top three degrees for career in...IT giant Microsoft has revealed its top three degree areas for people considering a career in technology.

In a blog, it suggests that future students look beyond the traditional computer science courses, as the company said: "Microsoft is hiring people with unique backgrounds, some newer with the inception of the cloud, web services and the amazing scale at which the industry is operating."

Therefore, it suggested courses in the field of data mining, artificial intelligence and natural language processing, which will help to sift through mountains of information on the cloud.

Secondly, business or competitive intelligence provides graduates with the skills to "make sense of data to a business audience", the blog states.

Finally, the blog suggests a degree in web analytics and statistics, which are traditional maths degrees that apply to an online world.

"Retailers, web services, and advertisers will need people in these fields as they try to get the most for their advertising money," it explained.

Last week, thousands of students received their A level results, hoping to get enough grades to win a place at university.
