New mums use internet to stay in touch

20/10/2009 New mums use internet to stay in touch Females who are in an environment without an internet connection or mobile phone can feel anxious, a gadget magazine has claimed.

According to Stuff Magazine, people exist in a community where neighbours might not be known and loneliness can be experienced in the middle of a crowd.

Mobile phones and laptops are important as they are lifelines to the outside world - whether it is a status update on a social networking website or a phone call with a friend or relative.

Zara Rabinowicz, technology expert at Stuff Magazine, said: "New parents in particular can start to feel cut off from the world when caring for young children. As your social activities dwindle, the phone or email can be considered your lifeline to the real world.

"Add to this the fact that you can contact your GP should the need arise, or Google just why your child won't teeth."

A recent report from Virgin Media revealed that two-thirds of the UK's population love being connected to the internet at all times.
