Next Monday 'computer virus peak'

19/11/2008 Next Monday 'computer virus peak'Computer users have been warned to take extra special care next Monday as it has been predicted to be the worst day of the year for computer viruses.

Security experts PC Tools has forecast the bleak outlook for computer fans on November 24th, as figures from 2007 show that it was the peak for malicious software last year.

Reasons suggested by the firm as to why that this particular date is the most popular for computer attacks include the possibility that more online shoppers buy items on this day using their computers.

These provide a resource for hackers to target with malware and potentially get hold of crucial financial details and as Christmas is approaching the number of possible targets is higher.

Sophos has also found that spam is causing major concerns for people, with a survey from July this year suggesting that 97 per cent of business email is spam.

Carole Theriault, senior security consultant for Sophos, said: "Spam is motivated by money. So long as they [spammers] make money then they will continue spamming."
