Obama to 'change how IT is conducted'

10/11/2008 Obama to 'change how IT is conducted'Barack Obama intends to change how the IT industry is conducted in the US in order to alter the global economy.

The president-elect of the US has outlined his policies for technology and IT and revealed that broadband for all is a key part of it.

He intends to invest in science and IT, as well as paying special attention to keeping the internet open and making next-generation broadband a reality.

On his website, his plan outlines include the statement: "Revolutionary advances in information technology, biotechnology, nanotechnology and other fields are reshaping the global economy.

"Without renewed efforts, the United States risks losing leadership in science, technology and innovation."

A chief technology officer is expected to be appointed and will play a key role in updating IT policies in the US, with Gearlog suggesting Google chief executive Eric Schmidt could be in line for the position.

The impact of the internet on Obama's victory in the US election was greater than in any other campaign, with experts claiming online work built the platform for his election.
