Public asked to sponsor Colossus gallery

08/02/2012 Public asked to sponsor Colossus galleryMembers of the public are being asked to sponsor the new gallery to house the Colossus computer at The National Museum of Computing (TNMOC) on Bletchley Park.

Funds will help to build the new gallery, which is set to open next month, and people can sponsor a valve on a virtual Colossus, the computer used to help decipher encrypted messages during World War II.

While the rebuilt Colussus has been on display for some time, the new gallery will be in Block H in the exact spot where the original computer stood during the war. It will also have new displays and provide more space for the museum's growing number of visitors.

TNMOC hopes to raise £150,000 to complete the gallery.

"Colossus plays a huge part in the history of electronics and computing and we aim to create a gallery to inspire future generations of computer scientists and engineers," commented Phil Hayes, the Colossus Rebuild Chief Engineer.

Last year the museum opened two major new galleries featuring the Tunny machine and BBC Domesday Touchtable.
