23/06/2010 REC: Budget supports job creationThe Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) has applauded chancellor George Osborne for helping the jobs market with his Budget.

Mr Osborne announced his emergency Budget yesterday (June 22nd).

Kevin Green, chief executive of the REC, commented that by creating a stable tax environment for businesses it will encourage the private sector to create jobs at a time when the public sector could be force to cut staff.

Included in the Budget is a rise to the National Insurance (NI) threshold and an NI holiday for businesses that start up over the next three years in certain areas of the UK.

People who are beginning their career development in IT will also benefit from a rise in the income tax threshold, which will increase by £1,000, meaning that staff will not be taxed on the first £7,475 they earn.

However, the Budget also announced a rise in VAT to 20 per cent from January next year.

Mr Green said: "This will hit some jobs hard, especially the supply of agency staff into the charitable and financial sectors."
