Rewarding staff 'can benefit employers too'

06/02/2012 Rewarding staff 'can benefit employers too'Rewarding and incentivising staff will benefit employers as well as motivate employees, one expert has said.

Offering salary sacrifice schemes to workers will have tax benefits for businesses, explained Sheila Attwood, pay and benefits editor at XpertHR.co.uk.

She said that both employers and staff earn savings through national insurance and businesses can then decide how they will use these savings to benefit employees.

However, despite the presence of such schemes, there has not been a rise in demand for them.

Ms Attwood noted that in the last four years, around 20 per cent of companies offered a voluntary benefit scheme.

"For employers there is quite often a cost involved - there is quite often an admin charge per employee," she remarked. "So although the employee gets those benefits, there is sometimes a cost to the employer for that.

"These days, with all the voucher code websites - you can pretty much go and find yourself a five or ten per cent discount on an insurance company without your employer having to offer you that through the voluntary benefit scheme."

Last month the website reported that pay settlements are at their highest level for three years, suggesting that the value of employees is being recognised.

Womenintechnology.co.uk is holding a free event about ways in which employers can reward and incentivise staff in the most tax effective way on February 10th.
