21/02/2012 School and business partnerships 'could get young people in...Gaining work experience during school is important for getting a job and one expert has said that this could be improved by building stronger partnerships between education providers and businesses.

HR expert and training specialist Tara Daynes highlighted the importance of young people gaining skills during school that will make them more employable.

By holding student mentoring, careers awareness days and business skills development days, young people can learn how to write job applications and know what to expect from an interview, as well as go on a work placement.

Indeed, work placements could be the deciding factor on whether or not a student wants to pursue a career path or even show them an avenue they had not thought of before, such as getting girls to consider technology careers.

Ms Daynes explained that making the transition from education to business can be very difficult, "so stronger partnerships between education providers and businesses can help this process".

"Not only does it help students know what is in store," she added, "it also helps them to develop the skills that are often not covered by academic study."
