Small countries 'more cyber-ready' than UK
31/01/2012
Small countries including Sweden and Israel are more prepared for a cyber attack than the UK, US and China, a new
study
has found.
Research from McAfee and the Security & Defence Agenda reveals that while the UK is 'cyber-ready', much more can be done to prepare for attack.
The study analysed the current thinking about cyber threats and the measures in place to defend them across 27 countries.
It revealed that 57 per cent of global experts believe an arms race is underway and that more than a third (36 per cent) think cyber security is more important than missile defence.
The main concern of a cyber attack is damage to critical infrastructure and real-time information sharing was a key recommendation of the report.
"The core problem is that the cyber criminal has greater agility, given large funding streams and no legal boundaries to sharing information, and can thus choreograph well-orchestrated attacks into systems," explained Phyllis Schneck, vice-president and chief technology officer in the Global Public Sector at McAfee.
Other findings revealed a future skills shortage of people in
IT jobs
with cyber security skills.
