UK businesses 'still pondering' cloud computing

08/04/2011 UK businesses 'still pondering' cloud computingOver half (57 per cent) of businesses in the UK are still undecided if cloud computing is suitable for their operations and if they do make the move, they are unsure how to implement the cloud. 

This is according to research by 2e2, leading Michael Dean, head of marketing at the National Computing Centre, to reassure firms not to be afraid of the cloud, but to still remain careful.

"Get a clear view of your requirements, understand your risk profile; there may be some things that you shouldn’t put in the cloud and some things that can easily work," he advised.

"Shortlist your suppliers and review the controls in place against your requirements. Be sure to review contracts, avoiding those which are one-sided – this is an emerging industry and suppliers naturally want to cover potential risks."

The research also found that while 91 per cent of businesses find that hybrid cloud models are the most suitable option for them, nearly three-quarters (71 per cent) are worried about the management complexity it could bring.
