Women in their 50s 'are not at the end of their career'

31/01/2012 Women in their 50s 'are not at the end of their...Women in their 50s are still at the height of their career rather than at the end of it and can even find something new to do with their profession.

This is the message from Ceri Wheeldon, founder of fabafterfifty.co.uk, who stressed that perceptions need to change about people in their 50s.

"People over 50 still feel they are being discriminated against in the workplace and that needs to be addressed, especially with the pension age being increased and people have to work for longer," she said.

"If people are recognised in the workplace for the contribution that they make that makes people feel positive, and that is empowering."

Ms Wheeldon even said that women over 50-years-old can embrace life more and follow the passions they might have had in their younger life, with technology helping them realise these dreams.

Earlier this month, home secretary Theresa May told Total Politics magazine that feminism is about equal opportunities and ensuring there is a level playing field between women and men.
