Working mothers 'accepted'

15/06/2009 Working mothers 'accepted'Professional women who have children are no longer being criticised for their choices, it has been claimed.

Tatjana Hine, president of the British Association of Women Entrepreneurs (BAWE), explained that attitudes to working mothers have "changed for the better".

She added that flexibility is central to this changing outlook and pointed out that employers and working women with children are both making an effort in this area.

"People are obviously more flexible, we try and be more flexible in regards to our time regarding children and that I think is vital," Ms Hine observed.

"It is very important because we understand how difficult it is."

Earlier this year, the right to request flexible working was extended from parents with children under the age of six to parents with children under the age of 16.

Flexible working, which is a popular option for women returning to work, includes a number of working patterns like part-time or flexi-hours, working from home and job sharing.
