5. Equal Pay Day 2009 - Friday 30th October
The gender pay gap isn’t inevitable. Equal Pay Day 2009 is our opportunity to do something about it.
Every year individuals and groups from all over the country join the Fawcett Society and UNISON on Equal Pay Day (EPD), held on October 30th, to draw attention to the injustice that is the gender pay gap. This year there is a unique opportunity to reform equal pay law and help close the full time gender pay gap of 17.1%. The Government’s Equality Bill is currently being scrutinised by members of Parliament. The Bill is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reform equal pay law and our best chance to close the gender pay gap. Yet in its current form the Bill fails to deliver the robust measures that are so desperately needed.

If you would like to take action:

11. VW Mentorship Opportunities
Do you want to make a difference and raise the aspirations of young people?
The Visable Women campaign aims to allow students to be the driving force in challenging the underrepresentation of women in certain industries and senior management positions. They want to create a female/student graduate network whose gifts and talents are discovered and nurtured so that they are prepared to be more than just employees but inspirational leaders in their workplace, local community and the wider society. One of the avenues through which they do this is via implementing an informal mentorship scheme for dynamic students who want to learn and develop with your help. This is a great way to give back and help a less experienced person hoping to enter a similar career field at the same time. If you are interested in this opportunity please send a personal profile of no more than 200 words telling them about yourself to info@vwcampaign.co.uk.

12. Request for flexible working IT professionals to speak on flexible working at events
Do you have experience you would like to share with a wider audience on flexible working experiences?
The BCS are looking for speakers from across the IT profession who work flexibly - whether it is stretch time, short time, flexible worker, 9 day fortnight, home working or whatever - to speak at events near London, Warwick and South Coast. You can be in any area or field of IT and at any level of seniority. They'd also like to hear from those of you who manage flexible workers and want to share your tips for doing so. If you are interested please contact Jan Peters at jan.peters@KatalytiK.co.uk or on +44 797 4011278.

To really help shape the production as well as show a female audience that women are contributing to the web (technologically, economically and socially), women need to get involved. Otherwise our contributions over the last 20 years of the web are at risk of being over-looked and going uncredited. Go to: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/digitalrevolution/ to join the debate, or if you'd like to follow them on Twitter, the BBC Digital Revolution team are here: @bbcdigrev
