Women: The Powerful Negotiators
Have you ever:
- Been caught short when negotiating that all-important pay-rise?
- Wondered why some negotiators appear to be aggressive and off-putting?
- Suffered pangs of nervousness and with an uncomfortable “butterfly” feeling
in your stomach before approaching an essential negotiation?
With the New Year in sight, join 'Women – The Powerful Negotiators' to
learn the tricks to get you to negotiate what you want in
2010!
Numerous
studies have proved that women are, by nature, excellent negotiators. In
negotiations with men, however, they often feel intimidated and lack
self-confidence in supporting their positions. This session is designed to guide
women in IT through the stylistic differences with their male counterparts and
offer practical techniques to negotiate in a man’s world, by:
- Understanding the gender-based differences in approaching negotiations: an
insight into the psychological and behavioural differences between men and women
and their approach to negotiating
- Diffusing scepticism and aggression: learning techniques for dealing with
the belly-rumbling and “macho” behaviours that could jeopardize their
preparation
- Asking diagnostic questions: understanding what is important, or what
problems specific solutions cause
- Sharing information about their own interests and what it is they want to
achieve from the negotiation
- Brainstorming about possible solutions (rather than defending any positions)
and influencing your counterpart with elegance and confidence.
You will
leave with:
- Insight into the gender-based differences in approaching negotiations
- A toolbox to enable you to prepare, approach and undertake challenging
negotiations
- The confidence to engage in negotiations without fear and dread
- Hands-on experience of integrative bargaining negotiation techniques, which
are in tune with female values of authenticity and collaboration
- Practical experience to leveraging negotiations and strategically engaging
the male power bases
This session was led by Christina
