Right Place. Right Time. The world of banking is changing for the better, and RBS Global Banking & Markets is at the forefront of those changes. We’ve redefined our business strategy, sharpened our client focus and are pulling out all the stops to regain the confidence and trust of our shareholders. But this is just the start and, as we look to the future, graduates and interns will have a crucial role to play.
Global Banking & Markets (GBM) is the investment banking arm of the RBS group and provides financing and risk management products to large corporates and financial institutions around the world. Across our business we bring together an extensive range of capabilities including debt and equity financing, risk management and corporate finance advisory services all with the aim of helping our customers achieve their financial objectives.
Graduate OpportunitiesThis is an exciting time to join RBS. Graduates now find themselves at the centre of our regeneration, redefining RBS and delivering projects that will shape not only our business, but the future of banking. With career-building responsibilities from day one, you’ll influence the strategic decisions we make going forward. In Global Banking & Markets (GBM) we are looking for talented graduates to join us in Markets, Banking, Technology and Operations. We also recruit Masters and PhD students.
Technology at RBSOperating across five continents, we provide the technological infrastructure and develop state-of-the-art tools for all parts of our business. We use the latest programming languages and technologies to create bespoke solutions and collaborate closely with other departments to ensure these solutions are aligned to clients’ needs. Our remit goes far beyond support. In the fiercely competitive world of finance, it’s vital we have the best technology at our fingertips. Technology is at the heart of everything we do. It allows us to trade across time zones, perform complex calculations, transfer funds and disseminate information. That’s why we design, build and maintain our systems in-house. If we want to retain our competitive edge, we need the very best customised solutions. Graduates who join this programme are allocated to different product areas. Once assigned, you’ll undertake two rotations: one in the front office and one in the back office which will give you a broad understanding of financial markets, projects and product styles. Whether you are developing or supporting an application, you can expect to be building, integrating and delivering solutions for a specific business.
Training We provide an initial intensive training programme over two months which includes our global induction week, financial markets training for one week, and six weeks of technology training. This gives you a solid grounding of a broad range of technical skills and knowledge that will enable you to ‘hit the ground running’ when you start your rotations. You’ll be supported by your ‘buddy’ and ‘mentor’ and have access to our e-learning portal for any supplementary training at anytime you require.
What we look forTechnical skills are not essential but if you can demonstrate a keen interest in finance and technology this would be a distinct advantage. Many of our graduate trainees have degrees in Engineering, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science and the Physical Sciences. However, if you can display a high level of numeracy and strong analytical skills, you should not let your degree subject prevent you from applying.
