Media Skills Workshop - UKRC
Date:
23rd March 2010
Location:
Hamilton House, London
Time:
09:30 – 16:30
The UKRC is pleased to offer a free one-day media skills workshop for women in science, engineering, technology and the built environment (SET).
This free offer is available to women who have registered on the UKRC’s GetSET Women, as being interested in speaking to the media, and who are willing to become key spokeswomen.
We would like women to apply who are eager to have contact, and who can be available to speak to the media when the UKRC is approached for comment or where the UKRC is looking to promote a particular issue. The criteria for attending are that you must be a woman in SET in academia or industry, and that you must agree to be a preferred contact for media enquiries through the UKRC.
The Workshop
The workshop takes on board the fact that some spokeswomen may be very experienced in dealing with the media, but many others may have no experience in handling press and radio interviews.
It covers areas such as what makes a good story and how to tell it, followed by longer more practical sessions, when the delegates may have the opportunity to practice their skills and receive feedback. We will discuss different areas of media and how to raise the profile of Women in SET.
The ultimate aim is to build and enhance the positive reputation of Women in SET, raising the profile of women in SET within the media and creating partnerships for the future.
We will help you:
Learn about how the media works, and how to make it work for you
Find out how to approach radio interviews, with practice behind a microphone
Avoid common mistakes and answer difficult questions
Look at what makes a good story, and ways to get your press release used
To register for the training event, please email info@ukrc4setwomen.org as soon as possible providing your name, telephone number, email address and occupation but by 8th March 2010 at the latest. Places will be reserved on a first come, first served basis, and you will receive an email confirming your place on the course.
In order to take advantage of this offer you must have registered with the UKRC’s GetSET Women - to register for free, please go to
