Inspire young people in your area to take up a career in IT

One of our key aims is to attract more women into careers in technology, so we are partnering with non-profit Growing Ambitions to encourage the women in our network to engage in career speaking volunteering as part of your CSR activity.

Growing Ambitions is a unique UK-wide volunteering initiative that puts real people, doing real jobs, in front of young people to tell them what their careers are really like and give them great ideas for their future. Growing Ambitions gives impact to volunteering in education and is an award-winning, not-for-profit organisation. 

Careers advisers are often under-resourced and need the input from the world of work. Young people need information to help them make informed career choices. It is particularly important that young girls have female IT role models they can look up to and aspire to be like. 

It would be great if you could register as willing to give a voluntary half-an-hour talk about your job and career to young people near where you live or work.

It only takes just a few minutes to sign up through the volunteering portal. You can speak just once if you want to, or as many times as you like. You can opt out in a few clicks at any time.

Four steps
1. Register to speak – it only takes a few minutes to complete a screen, and then verify your email address
2. Log in and indicate your availability and speech topic(s)
3. Wait to be contacted by a careers adviser (from a school, college or university near your home or workplace)
4. The careers advisor will liaise with you by email to agree a date and time

Encourage your colleagues and friends to volunteer to register to speak about their jobs as well. Click the register link and you’ll find useful FAQs, too.
